Round 3 of the Downhill National series has come around so fast it only feels like yesterday that we were in Queensland.
Mum and I did a bit of a road trip from Canberra down to Geelong in a very small camper van, not an easy thing with a downhill bike. Driving through Melbourne was interesting but we found our way to the highway to Geelong, went past only one group of mountains on the way and they did not look very big at all.
Friday was practice day, firstly I had to stop off at the Sram tent and have my bike checked as I had a bit of a stupid crash and I think I bent my hanger or twisted my derailleur, Dylan is great he helps me out so much we finally found the problem and off I went to practice.
Friday practice days are great as it is all in practice and I get to ride with Josh and my riding mates from Adelaide.I actually liked the track it had a little bit of everything in it,technical and pedally stuff, it is actually a fun track to ride.
Did heaps of runs with Josh Button, we had a bit of fun trying different lines even ones that you would not think of riding in your race run.The turn around time was really quick for runs so you could get heaps in although the track was going to be different for race day as there was heaps of rain coming our way. It started raining late Friday afternoon and rained all through the night, we know that because you can hear everything when you are in a camper van. Practice on Saturday for me is in the afternoon, it was still raining although the track was holding up really well, only did a few runs as the forecast for Sunday was clearing so the track would be different again.
Camper vans are good fun until it rains and you are very muddy, we went back to the caravan park and tried to clean everything I hate to think how much mud they found in their washing machines.
Sunday race day woke up and the rain had stopped the track was still a bit slow but it would not take long to dry up.
Josh and I did a couple of runs together, then had some lunch and tried to clean our bikes ready for our race runs.
I had a great run as with most race runs it was not perfect but I was really happy with how it went, I just gave it everything in the last 500 metres, I came away with the win and also the series leaders plate, I would of liked to go up for another run as the track was drying out heaps and was finally really fast.
Congratulations to Josh for taking out the series leaders plate again, next race Canberra Nationals I can not wait bring it on.
Heaps of thanks to Mongoose, especially to Phil and Scott for sending pedals and a new hanger to me at different states around Australia.
Thanks to SRAM for everything especially for letting me try out the 09 Boxxers they are so sweet.
Thanks to mum for taking me on the road trip (we only wanted to kill each other a couple of times).
Thanks to dad for working 2 jobs so I can travel Australia.
Thanks to all of the Gravity team sponsors, SRAM, Rockshox, Adidas eyewear, Fox, Maxxis, Crankbrothers, Lotek shoes.
Thanks to my personal sponsors Trak Cycles and Results electrical.
See you all in Canberra
