Hey Folks,
Just returned from the China X-Games after a quick 5 day trip.
They had a new skate park set up for this years contest, so it was new to everybody. They had a nice 10ft quarter into a 5ft box jump about 15ft long - the rest of the course was street styles with a few quarters and rails, banks, ledges etc.
Beijing was awesome straight after the Olympics, so there was still heaps happening and it was exciting.
So many new buildings since last time i was there. Riders came from all over China and even two guys from Quebec.
Qualifying went down pretty well with some big tricks getting thrown down mainly on the jump box. I tried to stay clean nailing most things but coming unstuck on a 720 on the box.
Made it through to the finals - so i was just concentrating on getting another 720 done. I do that trick a lot and the box was perfect for it. But for some reason i just kept spinning off axis and looping out. Bummer. I threw in a flip tuck with some flairs, whips, 360 whips and a good old one footer for good measure.
A few of the local guys were also getting owned with the top guy out with a tweaked ankle just before the runs. In the end i came out on top and took first place!
No time to celebrate as best trick was soon up. After a 10 min rest the judges gave the riders 3 tries to nail a best trick. There were double whips to face plant, Flip Whips to front wheel case, (so close to pulling it) and backflip attempts from the younger guys. It was just chaos out there.
I wanted to frontflip the jump box but it was a bit smaller than i was used to. I got pumped from the crowd rolled in a gave it a red hot one. She came staright around and i landed both wheels sweet as. I was so ready for a slam. So stoked, and came back around and sent another 720. Bit wonky but i pulled it this time. That was the maddest 2 mins of my life. I even got to spray everyone with champagne....TWICE.
First place and best trick in the bag back to back from 2007. So pumped on the whole thing. China has once again been good to me.
